Adding decorative lines to a mount is a traditional technique to draw the eye into the artwork.

A corner marking gauge will help you mark out your lines and ensure they meet precisely at the corners.

Tip: Put 3M 811 Removable Magic Tape across the corner when ruling lines to make them meet neatly at the corners and stop the ink pooling. Draw the line slightly over the tape then reposition it to start the next one.
