Hang a Metal Panel

There’s a couple of simple options for getting art and photography on panels ready to hang on a wall:

Panel Hanging Plates are quick, simple and inexpensive. They allow the panel to hang on almost any hook, nail or screw. Watch our video to see how to apply them.

Aluminium Sub Frame profile is cut and joined to make a frame.

This is bonded to the back of a printed panel and hangers are fitted to the frame. This method gives the panel more rigidity; it is spaced away from the wall and hangs on normal picture hooks. Watch our videos to find out more.

How to calculate the size of a sub frame

Allow for a border between the sub frame and the edge of the panel. On average this will be 25mm but can be less on a smaller panel. You will also need to allow for the width of the Moulded Push-in Corners at each end. To work out the size of pieces you'll need to cut/order on Chop Service:

Panel width mm - (border mm x 2) - (27mm x 2) = sub frame width in mm

Panel height mm - (border mm x 2) - (27mm x 2) = sub frame height in mm

  • Step one

Measure the panel width and height.

  • Step two

To work out the size of the sub frame, take the measurements and...

  • Step three

    Subtract 2 x 25mm for the border (2 x 15mm for smaller panels).

  • Step four

Subtract 27mm to allow for each corner (54mm in total from each measurement).
