Work Out Which Screw to Use
Products featured
Matching a screw to the hanger you’re fixing comes down to four things:
The gauge of the screw - this denotes the diameter of the thread - choose one slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole in the hanger.
The type of head - Pozi heads are generally easiest to use but make sure you use a Pozi screwdriver to avoid damaging the head.
Length of the thread - choose one that will get a good fixing into the frame without being too long.
The shape of the head - pan head and flange head work best with most hangers. Countersunk heads suit picture plates and other hardware that have corresponding countersunk holes.
There’s a few ways to make screwing hardware into place easier:
A needle point bradawl is a quick and easy way to make a pilot hole for a small screw.
A King Dick screwdriver designed to fit all types of cross headed screws saves time picking the right screwdriver each time.
A cordless drill with a screwdriver bit speeds up the process and reduces fatigue, especially on harder wood.
