Backing Board

The backing board is a crucial element to the picture frame sandwich. A backing board seals the back of a picture frame, protecting it from environmental elements such as dust, insects, and moisture. We stock a range of boards including kraft and MDF backing boards. Kraft board is particularly rigid and strong, making it an excellent alternative to MDF that cuts easily with a knife, mountcutter, guillotine or a wall cutter. Kraft backing board contains no formaldehyde and produces little dust when cut.

Fluted backing board is available for a quality finish on everyday framing jobs. Made from double corrugated kraft board with brown kraft liners on both faces, these backing boards are gently bowed to help keep the framed artwork flat. Also available is Corri Cor's water resistant fluted backing board that has a coating on the hollow curved side.

Conservation grade backing board is also available, made from high quality white liners on both faces that are lignin-free and buffered. These boards are for use when framing high value prints and delicate materials. Kraft faced backing board has one white face and the other face has a textured brown kraft face paper, this board has many uses. One use is as a backing board for picture frames, the brown finish gives a traditional look.
