Glass Cutters

A range of glass cutting tools for cutting glass, scoring styrene, and handling glass in a picture framing workshop. Use a glass cutting tool to score a sheet of glass then carefully snap across a bench. Likewise, a plastic glazing scoring tool scores acrylic and styrene so it can be easily snapped to cut the plastic glass to size.

How can I cut glass?

1) Set up your work area. You'll need a large flat surface, preferably one that is slightly soft and won't scratch your glass. Work in an area that is easy to clean. Avoid working over carpet because of the risk of getting glass shards on the floor if the glass breaks. We recommend purchasing a cutting mat to be used on your workshop bench.

2) Clean the glass where you'll be making cuts. Use our glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth to clear the surface of any dust or grime. This will help ensure you get a clean cut.

3) Place down a straight edge or steel ruler over where you'd like to make the cut. 

4) Grip the glass cutter like a pencil, apply pressure to the glass, smoothly glide the glass cutter down the glass to make a clean score. Do not run back and forth over the line if you miss a spot. Running the cutter across the same spot will cause the glass to not break cleanly.

5) Carefully hold each side of the cut in your hands and apply slight downward pressure either side to break the glass in two, along the score line. Wear glass handling clothes to avoid any injuries.

6) Smooth the glass break and remove any chips or imperfections with a smoothing pad. Smoothing the edge reducing the chances of you being cut, plus smoothed glass is less likely to chip along the edges and has some added strength.
